i reapplied the thermal grease and it still does the same thing.
i cant even boot from the cd. it still says ntldr is missing press ctrl,alt,del to restart
everytime i restart it shows the same message. i cant figure it out.
also the heatsink looks like its scratched on the bottom, does that matter?
this is so frustrating.

Is the PC set to boot off the CD in the BIOS? so you can do a repair install of XP. it will say to press any key to boot of the CD....

yes it is set to boot from cd... but sometimes it wouldn't show that, and sometimes it will.
when i do press a key. it does nothing. in an earlier post i was able to boot from the cd, but it froze in the middle of recovery, before i replaced the retention module and thermal grease. do you think its saying cant find ntldr cos it froze in the middle of recovery
i also cant boot into advanced menu options like safe mode or last know good configuration

ok go in to the BIOS and there should be and option to load the default settings try that and see if it will boot if it won't go back in to the BIOS and set it to boot off the cd again and see if that works let me know the results
