As a last resort, I'll leave you with this tidbit. My #3 computer is an old tech set-up with an Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket 754) CPU, overclocked from 2.2GHZ to 2.7GHz, nForce3-A motherboard, with 2GB of OCZ Platinum DDR400/PC3200 RAM. It uses an AGP type video card. The old video card died and I replaced it with a lowly Radeon Excalibur 9550 Pro because it was cheap. I installed the driver(s) off the included CD and ran 3Dmark03. The benchmarks were WORSE than the old card which was little more than the onboard video some motherboards come with. I went to ATI's site and downloaded/installed the latest driver(s) and the 3DMark scores were even worse. I deleted the ATI drivers, rebooted the computer, and let Windows apply the default driver. After that I went to Windows Update, did a scan, and updated to the latest Windows driver specifically for my card. The 3DMark scores jumped way up (for such a puny card!!). I haven't tried installing the 'control panel' from the card's CD because I don't need to make adjustments in a vain attempt to play games with the computer.

None of this really helps you, but I guess the moral is that there was some sort of driver conflict with my motherboard and the newer card. If this was my #1 computer with the problem, I'd have gone straight to the manufacturer for some answers and a fix. My attempt was to throw some basic thoughts and ideas your way and see what they might turn up.

Putting the thing on highest resolution can make your game play bad on some games. Also running ceratin backgounds and playing games can conflict a moving background needs more resorces to run.You proberly not got enough power or resources to run games and moving or high res backgrounds.

Try just using an XP windows background.

In NVIDIA contraol panel you can set diffrentt settings for diffrent games.

What is your power supply?

I would say matching sticks of RAM.how much of your RAM have you dedicated to your GPU?

2 gig RAM would be much better.

What are the settings in BIOS/Setup for your RAM/GPU/CPU?

Have you changed settings thinking they would speed up your game play? When infact they causing games to lag and your computer to heatup?.

I would set your BIOS/Setup back to defaults and read the manual properly on what settings you should be using?

What is your virtual memory set at?

I think this is a combination of incorrect settings in BIOS/nvidia control panel/RAM lack of or wrong settings in BIOS/hardware proberly due to again wrong settings.

Maybe cooling is also not set right.

Also what other program,s are running in the background to reduce speed and functuality? What software do you have installed?

You know that box when setting res?The one thats says do not display settings my monitor cannot support?Check it.

The box was already checked. I am sure I have more than enough resources to run these games because I've ran them before!! Power supply is the same as before. Bios was updated recently and I have not touched the settings because I dont know how to.

I have played around with nvidia control panel but to no avail. Im already running 2gb of ram with no difference. Changing the resolution does nothing. For example, on maximum settings in CS source, I get around 10 fps. At minimal settings I get around 12 fps

I'll try removing the video driver like advised above, but I agree, it must be a driver conflict of some sorts
