Default Graphic Card Upgrade

I decided to up my graphics card from a Nvidia Ge Force 7300LE to a Nvidia Ge Force 8500 GT. Seemed like it should be easy take out the existing card plug in the new one load the drivers and away I go. However on reboot after installing the drivers the system (Xp SP2 latest updates) crashes. System restored and downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia same result. It would seem I'm getting a conflict. Any suggestions as a way to solve the problem. Its an ASUS motherboard.
Many thanks to anybody responding. MikeP

Driver Cleaner Professional download from Guru3D.com install this and run after you uninstall the driver remove the driver folder from root of c: .This will clean any remnants of the old driver files.Install new drivers and reboot .If the same results perhaps try an older driver.

mikep agrees: Exellent, I've downloaded and am studying the instructions.

Thanks for that. It doesn't mention in the fitting instructions that the old card driver needs removinng. I've looked but there's no where were the actual card driver is mentioned. If I remove all Nvidia software and then put it back won't it put me in the same position?

Did the driver cleaner uninstall, The standard uninstall leaves a load of rubbish doesn't it, reinstalled using new drivers and then old drivers. Unfortunately exactly the same results. Don't no where to go now perhaps a refund on my card. Thanks anyway.

I take it the new graphics card works until you update the drivers. Please post back if this is not the case.

Have you tried updating the nforce drivers for the motherboard? If not try that - see link:

nForce 520/560 - Windows XP/2000

I have installed this driver. The 7300LE card works fine. On install of the 8500GT the system boots OK then says its found new hardware (I uninstalled the 7300 driver via device manager) I put in the installation disc and it then says succesfully installed. On system reboot it just crashes. The crash is very quick no time to read the blue dump screen.
