Hi,

I have recently installed a new graphics card (Radeon X1650) it is exactly the same model as before. I replaced it due to a fault in the last one.

My problems are as follows (i am assuming they are related):

When i open media center and try watch a video file there is an annoying flickering line that appears every 5 seconds or so across the screen. This can be resolved by closing media center and loading it up again. When i close it the screen goes black for a second as if it is adjusting something. Once I have done this video files work fine.

Problem 2: When playing a game such as Madden 07, the same flickering line appears every now and again.

I have tried updated my graphics card and it still does not fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like you have another faulty card I would rma it as faulty, If you have a TFT screen it might be worth changing the cable but it sounds like a fault to me

Thanks for the reply. I find it strange that this problem only occurs on media center and a game that involves video replays. Is there any way i can identify a specific problem with the card or should i just return it and see if another one resolves the problem?

well it could be a codec issue. Do you have any packs installed ie klite? what format video do you watch? Uninstall any codec pack you have installed. Google cccp codec pack and install it then view a video you know gives you problems in media player cloassic which will come with the codecs. If you no longer have the problem then try media centre then the game. Could possibly be a corrupt divx codec or similar

I have installed the codec pack and there is still the same problem so I have taken steps to replace the card. Thanks for your help.

Did you try completely removing the ATI driver remnants with a tool like this: Download ATI The Catalyst Uninstaller 1.0 Driver for Win 2K/XP - Softpedia - then download the new Catalyst drivers, reboot and install them?

Also, do you have anything starting up with your PC (Start > run > msconfig > startup tab) that may be conflicting with video playback?

After i install the ATI remover and reboot my computer how do I go about installing the new drivers as I am assuming if I remove the ATI components windows wont load up?

you will get generic vga so you will get a working system. Just download and install from AMD
