Default Radeon HD 3850 driver problems =(

Hey there,

I've recently bought the AGP version of the AGP Radeon HD 3850.

However after installing the drivers that came with the CD (version 8.2, I think) I am experiencing graphical errors in games (nothing else). Naturally I decided to update my cards drivers to the latest verion on the ATI website (v8.3).

However when I try to install the new drivers I get an error message saying 'Your operating system or hardware is not compatible with these drivers. Setup will not continue' (or something along those lines).

I know that I have downloaded the XP version of the HD 3850 drivers so have no idea why I am getting this message.

I have tried formatting Windows but am still getting the same problems.

If anyone could tell me how to solve my graphical problems/update my drivers, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi -- Welcome to PCHF

we really need more to go on...
Is your card an ATI built model -- or is it an aftermarket remake?
Video cards are tweaked/remanufactured by hundreds of companies-- all with their own parts / coolers/ overclocks

suggest-- when you repost-- go into "User CP" "edit options" --scroll down the list.
List all your hardware in the spaces be sure to list the Brands and Model Numbers
-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs"-- click on yes.
It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something I can go look up your motherboard manufacturer's site and read the manual.

You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once.
This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.

Hi gumpo, your in luck, i`ve been looking into getting one of these cards for my system and have been looking on the net for reviews etc and have come across this problem already

I believe the fix is to download the AGP specific drivers from the manufacturers website directly and not use the ATi CCC and drivers

E.g. If you have a Sapphire card go to the Sapphire website or if you have the HIS card go to the HIS site

Theses cards do seem to be suffering from poor driver issues

Sapphire Technology - drivers

Sorry cant provide link for HIS as the site appears to be down at the mo

D

Edit: As for the graphical errors you get during gaming with the drivers that do work, from what I have read, (depending on what CPU you have) the Cpu can cause a bottleneck in the system if it is not powerful enough to keep up with the GFX card
