My house had a power cut and my PC was on. Now every time i boot it up after the windows loading screen it BSODs and restarts. I cant read what the BSOD says because it is only on the screen for a few seconds. It doesnt boot up any way, safe mode, last good conf or normally.

I then put in an ubuntu live CD to see if it was a software problem and it wouldnt work ethier. It couldn't setup the x server.

So i think it is the graphics card which has broken...

Is this the case? Will i have to buy a new gfx card?

BSOD's after a power outage are quite common. It doesn't necessarily mean anything has blown. The fact that you 'see' a BSOD most likely means that ur GC isn't fried.

We should be able to fix this through recovery console - what version of windows are you running?

Thanks for the fast reply . I feel much better now, hopefully nothing else is broken.

I put in my windows cd, ran the recovery program and the problem still occured. Its XP SP 2.

I kept the windows version updated so it should be SP 2. But i'm not 100% sure on that.

What recovery program? Do you mean you did repair installation? Or do you have recovery disks that came with pc e.g. its a Dell or HP, etc

Repair installation. I dont have any recovery disk's that came with this PC. But i have one by mesh (PC company) for this PC, would it work on the other one?

As long as its an original windows CD. Do the following:

Boot to windows CD

Press to R to repair a windows installation from recovery cd.

Type in number for windows installation you want to log onto - is usually 1 > press enter
Enter the administrator password.

At the prompt type> chkdsk /f /r

This may take a while - after its completed check if the pc reboots ok if not post back.
