Default gpu blown?

Hi ther,

im having a prob with my 2nd pc. I have a pny geforce 7600gs in it, but ever since i tried using in on tv the via s-video its been behaving strangely with flaring and vertical lines.. then it started to work for a little while, and now it doesnt seem to work at all. The pc boots up in min res and colors and the settings are locked so i cant change them.. i have re-installed the drivers for the card and monitor but it still wont work. i plugged the monitor back into the mainboard intel graphics and its working fine.. in the normal res and colours.

Does this most likley mean its blown? I dont have another pc to test it on as my other one is pci-e and this one is agp. Any other ways i can test the card? it seems to be working fine according to device manager, so the pc is seeing the card..

I want to be sure its defo the card b4 i go and try to buy another... although ive no idea if there are many decent agp cards still around.

the specs on this pc are ... xp sp2, 2gb ram, P2.8ghz, pny geforce 7600gs, 450w Power Supply Unit

ta

mark

Hi --
I am afraid that does sound like a dead card-- you could test it in another PC-- a friends ? But decent AGP cards are still available...in fact I saw someone on this forum that bought a regular PCI video card recently--those I did not think you could find.

Graphics cards - AGP VGA cards - Misco.co.uk

Computer Video Cards - PriceGrabber.com - UK[]=1:596/popup1[]=20:387

yeh i reckon you are right.. the card is kaput! boohoo!! im sooo ****** off.. the card is under a year old but i CANT find the reciept anywhere!! which means i cant return it. I bought it on line from one of the major suppliers but cant remember which.. so i logged into as many as i could think of but none of them had records of the purchase.. dammit (not looking for advice here...just having a moan to people who might appreciate it...rather than bore my b/f with it lol)

gonna start a new thread "reccomend an agp card?"

max

Haha.. What's ironic is the same thing happened to mine when I hooked it up to our HDTV.. Oh well.

Contact the manufacturer and see if you can get an RMA

Seriously, take ih8bills' advice and let a shop or anyone with an AGP slot test the card. If it's the Motherboard then getting a new AGP would complicate matters.

Yes, you just need the card's serial and what-not (on back of card) and you shouldn't have any problems. Just call em, say the card blewup, it just randomly stopped working.

Btw.. tried cleaning the fan and heatsink of dust?
