Default Do I need 2 PCIe power connectors for my video card?

Hello,
I just bought a Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512MB DDR3 256bit PCI-e x16
I installed it in my home built PC:
  • Windows XP home
  • AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor 4400+
  • 1024MB DDR2

The Pc boots up and runs fine.
I noticed the video card has two six-pin aux PCIe power connectors.
My power supply unit has only one. Do I have to have 2 plugged in to run the card correctly and if I do how do I get another PCIe power connector.
Do I need a new PSU or are there adapters I can buy?
My friend just bought a video card and his has one 6 pin PCIe and a 8 pin PCIe power connector.
His PSU also only has 1 connector and it’s a 6 pin .can he plug the 6 pin into the 8 pin ?
This is very confusing .
Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Here is a link on how to?CPU3D.com - Vvikoo Geforce 8800GT Max (1Gb DDR3)
There's also a DVI-to-VGA converter, a DVI-to-HDMI converter, a 6-pin PCIe power cable as well as 2 video-out cables included ... both s-video and component.

A suggestion to make this discussion easier...

suggest-- when you repost-- go into "User CP" "edit options" --scroll down the list.
List all your hardware in the spaces be sure to list the Brands and Model Numbers
-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs"-- click on yes.
It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something I can go look up your motherboard manufacturer's site and read the manual.

You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once.
This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.

Is the card you bought "direct" from Nvidia ?
Or a "branded" card-- many makers use the original makers cards-- then add their own coolers, etc.

It is hard to be sure without more info.
