Is having 8800 gts 512's (g92) in sli worth it? Is sli effective?

If you can afford it Derek, then a 8800 in SLI is definately worth it. It is something that some of us can only dream of. Basically, the one card will render the top half of the screen, and the other will render the bottom half, so you can imagin how much of a performance boost this will give.

well i currently have an xfx 8800 ultra extreme, but i may be able to change it for another card(s)

As long as both cards are the same Derek, you'll be fine.
