Default [6800GS sli] Blown gfx card?

A friend helped me build shuttle pc jan 06, had a few software problems, but eventually weeded those out. Now using XP.

AMD athlon 64 3200+ venice core
Shuttle ST20G5
1Gb PC3200 DDR RAM
Gigabyte GF 6800GS SLI 256Mb gfx

Unfortunately I think Ive blown my graphics card. The computer will crash, but in a way I havent seen before.

The monitor displays what looks like frozen static on a tv screen (if you can imagine recording static on a vcr and pausing it).

I restarted to find there was no signal feed into my monitor. However, a few days later I restarted again to find it booted up as normal, but then crashed again, similar to before.

When it boots up, everything seems to be working as normal, including the monitor (it displays NO SIGNAL), screen jsut stays blank.
I dont think over heating was a problem as I manage to keep it fairly cool.

Not sure if this is related, but I was playing a cracked version of world of warcraft (slap on the wrist) which was crashing every few minutes when this happened.

Any help on what to do would be really appreciated, anyone had the same problem? what should i do?

Cheers

Have you tried re — installing your graphics drivers?

It would seem odd for it to just go like that, I would expect some lead up to it. Maybe lower frame rates in games or even the odd blue screen.

Thanks for the reply. As there is no output to my monitor it is virtually impossible to re-install the drivers. Perhaps I'll try if it loads up as normal, hopefully before it goes pear shaped again.

Is there any way I can bypass using monitor output on my gfx card and use the one on my motherboard?

Have a look, if there are two connections for monitors then plug your monitor into that one.

Thanks, tried that and it works, at least I can use it for university stuff now Is there anyway I can test if it works or not? I had a look in device manager and only the on board integrated gfx processor came up. This a bad sign? Any more advice much appreciated, cheers
