Default [Answered] Nvidia vs Radeon (what card do I get?)

So I'm building a new computer and I'm having a little problem with the video card. I'm buying everything from newegg but I don't know whether to go with Nvidia or Radeon. I've always used Nvidia in the past, but I'm looking and I see that I can get a 1GB radeon card for like 1/2 the price of a 1GB Nvidia card. These are the two I'm looking at right now:
Newegg.com - EVGA 768-P2-N835-AR GeForce 8800GTX Superclocked 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH3870X2/G/HTDI/1G Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB (512MB x 2) 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

I don't know though.

What's the best card I can get for under $500 on newegg? PCI-e 16, btw

Heya Rory,

If you check out some reviews, you will see that the Radeon 3870 X2 is pretty much equivalent to the 8800 Ultra in performance. So you save 250 dollars or so and get the same performance.

Check out this review - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 - Fastest Yet! | Tom's Hardware

You'll see in that review that in half the games it beats the 8800 Ultra. The 3870 X2 is by far the best bang per buck out there. It outperforms 2 standard 3870s in crossfire in most of the tests in that review.

At this second, you can't get any better than that card.
