I tried out an 8800 gts out on my pc and on counter strike source the gts was giving me better fps than the ultra. Also when playing in games a hissing sort of noise can be heard, but when you come off the game it goes away and if you go back on, back comes the noise, its like whenever the pc has to process game graphics, the noise comes, please help me determine what is wrong if something is wrong. thanks

Sorry for the delay derek. I cant imagine why the GTS would give you better performance than the ultra. But as for the noise, the hissing noise is likely the fan on your graphics card. When it is under load, the graphics processor and graphics memory will produce a lot of heat, and the fan will have to speed up in order to diffuse it to the air.

Ok Iv tried a search here are a few of the answers.
not sure if they will help.
check CPU speed.
are you using onboard sound?if yes buy a new sound card,
Have you added extra heat sink or problem with heatsink.
check stock speeds/voltages/temps.
Increase or decrease FBS.
Thats all I can find on the subject as I am not into high spec cards.Maybe if you try some of the abouve.Or wait some one will answer you =that i am sure of.
I have read more and there seems to be a few ppl with this problem,are you sure the sound is not fan or CPU?

Im afraid its not the fan as i set it to 100% when playing games, i think its the Power Supply Unit making the noise, which is new, so it leads me to suspect its the graphics card drawing power from the supply which seams to make it hiss/screech. The same noise happened with my old Power Supply Unit, which was very new aswell.Speakers can be off when sound comes on,it only happens when playing games, Any thoughts?

also, whats fbs? Do you mean front side bus?
