Default Nvidia driver issue?

Hey all,

So this issue started today. My comp was working fine this morning and had been on all day while i was out and when i got home i couldn't get my computer to 'wake up'. It looked like the computer was woring fine but just wasn't displaying an image. After hitting ctrl+alt+delete i was able to open device manager and the desktop loaded but in a much lower resolution than usual. A restart didn't help. The computer boots in safe mode fine so i tried reinstalling the drivers. Didn't help. Updated to the latest drivers and tried the ones that came with my card. Neither work. If i uninstall my video card altogether windows will boot ok but after installing drivers and a reboot the screen goes blank again.

I need help. any ideas would be appreciated.

System specs:
Windows Vista 32bit
Intel core2 duo E6750
Gigabyte P35-DS4
4GB ram
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
750w PSU

Have you tried doing a system restore back to a point where you know it was working?

Howdy ultimate_noob and welcome to PCHF..

When you boot into windows, bring up task manager and end the proccess explorer.exe, then go to File and click New Task, then type in explorer.exe in the box that appears.. Does it work then?
