Hey guys, having a big problem here just hit christmas today and I got a new graphic card. Amazon.co.uk: Inno3D Geforce 8500GT 800MHz 512MB Graphics Card - I-8500GT-H4F4D: Electronics & Photo

But as my dad went to put it in we found out that the Motherboard couldnt take it on because it well.. didnt fit. We looked into getting a new motherboard but you cant put a new one in my PC as, as you said before a budget one made by Dell so you cant take and major things in it We looked at my dads PC but again his Motherboard couldnt take the graphics card either. So now ive looked into building a new PC altogether. But im stumped as to where to look and what exactly to get.

If you have any links to good sites you know or to point me in direction to go would be helpful

In my current system I have 2gb DDR Ram which I can use and the graphics card I mentioned above apart from that im not sure what else I can get out of it, again if you know would be great ^^

My dad suggested looking for a Backbone PC which has bere minimum in it and I could put some of the stuff that my current PC has in it to the backbone PC but again wouldnt know what sites to visit or what to put in it or even where to find a backbone PC.

It seemed my Motherboard couldnt take the PCI-E only PCI so if you guys know any PCI graphics card that can handle games such as BF2142 and Call of Duty 4 would be appriciated alot

Hello Xavii, welcome to PCHF.

lol, it's been long long time since we ever used PCI for graphics, and you'll never ever be able to run COD 4 on a PCI graphics card.. old tecnology. PCI these days is only used for things that don't really require the speed, such as modems. Are PCI slots the only thing you have in your PC, or do you have AGP?

Your right Dell as very poor at leaving your PC open for any improvements. I have always recommended Dell for their quality PC's and technical support, but this is their downfall. It's normally quite hard to upgrade a Dell and you'll probably need to upgrade most of that PC, Power Supply, Case as well as motherboard and maybe RAM.

A Backbone PC maybe good idea, you can also purchase these from Dell (using their customisable menu), but you can also pick them up from places like Comet. All they really are is the basic PC without keyboard, mouse and monitor.

If your looking at building your own, it would completely depend on what you budget is, what you use your PC for, and if your going to use the parts from your Dell (make and model required)?

Thanks mate

Will have a look at Comet now to see what I can do there before looking at making my own and sorry about forgetting to put the link to my current PC.

Dell Dimension 3100 Review - PCs

Thats basically it except mine has 2gb ram instead of the 512mb the original had.

Well pretty serious in a full time raiding guild on WoW also love games such as FM08 and games such as BF - But turns out I found a pretty decent machine on.. yes ebay with great specs and a great price something around £250 so I am going to sell this one for about £100 and just spend £150 on a new machine got link here if you want to check it out for me to tell me if it is worth it

AMD Athlon™64 X2 8GHZ Dual Core 2GB 250GB DVDRW Extra's on eBay, also, Desktop PCs, Computing (end time 27-Dec-07 23:45:00 GMT)

This is pretty much exactly like the one we bought except it had the PCI-E x16 and a normal PCI x 1. It tbh seemed great for the price - what do you make of it?

Oh that's nice, perfect, good quality, that new card of yours will fit nicely.

Not very specific about exactly what brand hard drive or memory you'll be getting. I would probably double check with the seller before you buy.
