I was looking into graphics accelerators to try to find out what they are, but I was having a hard time finding info. If I have a ati 9600 express would could i use an accelerator(would it even help?) or is it a one-or-the-other kind of thing?

Those should answer your question. I've never personally encountered that term, but it seems to be a type of GPU (video card).

A graphics card and graphics accelerator are the same thing.

The reason why it is called an accelerator is because that is exactly what it does. If you have a good video card in your PC, then all of the processing tasks that would normally be left to the CPU are done by the GPU instead.

I think your looking for a way of increasing the graphical capabilities of your current 9600, but I'm afraid the only way to do this is to replace the card entirely.
