Default Power wont come on

Ok here is the deal. I have built my own pc for about 10 years now. Every 6 months i take them apart to clear all the dust and what not out of the fans. Well like normal I did everything needed. Once I put the pc back together the power wouldnt turn on. So i checked everything and it was all in the right places. Well came down to it I found out what is stopping pc power from even turning on.

The video card is a 7600 gt when i put it into the pci express slot and plug it into the power supply the power in the pc wont even turn on. So i unplug the pci express plug from power supply and the power now comes on. But i get no video dont even know it rest of pc working. Even when i have the video card out the the pci express slot and plugged into the pci express power from the psu the computer wont turn on.

I never ran into a problem like this before could it be just the video card causing this problem.

Hello Mage Of Silence, welcome to PCHF.

Just to complicate things. It's possible it could be a number of things:

- The PSU. It's possible that there is no longer enough power for all of your devices. This can happen over time, and is known as "Capacitor Aging". Check your spec's against your actual power supply using, at around 15% for Capacitor Aging: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5 (click GoLite)

- The Slot. Was the card accidentally knocked at any time when the case was open? Or if you were using an air duster, it's suprising how many of us drop and forget that one screw. An air duster may have blown that screw (or anything else metalic) underneath the slot.

- Loose or faulty card!

All screws and parts accounted for. But the power supply turns on the computer as long as the pci express isnt plugged into the power supply too. Dont ask me if anything else is working becausse without a video card i cant see anything anyway. My old psu was built for pci express cards and this new one is just a tad better than the old.

I dont remember hitting anything never had to force the vid card out.

All i know is if it isnt plugged into the pci express connecter to the psu computer fans and and hd works. (even if the gfx card is in the pci express slot as long as it isnt plugged in the power will turn on stuff.) I cant tell if hd is booting up it has always been a quite hd never heard bootup ever before.

Arn't the PC lights and speakers connected up? You would normally hear a single beep and HDD activity lights??? Does the CPU fan spin? Later motherboards will normally have an LED indicator onboard. This indicator will normally show power is connected at the very least.

red led when power connected. green led when power comes on. and as i said be hd cpu fan and the other fans come on if pci express plug in isnt connected to vid card. Really just need to know if the video card would effect entire computer like this if was corrupted. Is it a possibilty. I have never ran into this kind of problem before. Usally my problems come with hardrives or ram going out and this doesnt seem like it would be one of those 2.

well as i said i cant truely rule out anything seens that i have no gfx card to see if it is really booting or just coming on . But the power does come on as long as the gfx card isnt plugged into the psu.
