Default [Discussion] 8800 gtx but is cpu to weak ??

Hi guys, i have a BFG OC2 8800GTX that i have further overclocked, and is running sweet, i have a 3500+ but by poblem lies here, unreal 3 runs slow, i get a horrid frame rate on the large worlds, i want to upgrade to a q6600, will i still have performance issues. And ye Im aware its an inferior cpu, but its oc'd to 3 gig, thus it pushes the card almost to its peak for non multi core optomized games...
The main problem i think is the pci express port (currently i have an old board ), but the board im getting has a much faster bandwidth, so i dont know if this will solve the low FPS problem, please help...

PcMark2006 score is 18 000

Heya Albert,

Of course yes, by going to a better board with a better FSB and faster CPU will help your gaming performance. My question would be, do you have problems with any other high end games? Or is it just Unreal 3?

There may just be issues with Unreal 3 and your particular card. Unless you have tons of running processes in the background, a 3500+ should be enough for any game (especially at 3ghz) if you have enough memory, and 8800GTX is obviously a beast.

If all your other games run with super high FPS and just Unreal 3 has issues, I would suspect it's just having issues with your card. If you keep updating the drivers, it would probably iron itself out.

But yeah, go with the better goods anyway lol...that never hurts

how much RAM do you have? the amount you have often has a huge affect on performance.also, if your memory is only DDR-333 or slower, then that will seriously hold your graphics card back

Thanks guys.

Ye could just be an issue with unreal 3 and gc drivers...
Quake wars, Airborn aswell as bioshock run well.

But would the amount of non gc ram effect my graphics so drastically, i only have 1 gig of ddr 400 ramms .. i almost have to reboot after a few levels to clear it but it normally just hinders load times and intermitant stops..i dont "feel" or c fps dammage, but maybe the large stages in unreal 3 are a biiig problem... ??

This might be changing the subject but ..whats the suggest ram amount for the gammer these days ? my new pc will have 2 gigs of CorsairTwinX XMS DDR 2 800 4-4-4-12 ramms
is this to little, ie i want my rig to run vista and crysis maxxed out ...

Yes it is the second factor in those high ram games. What happens is your ram get's used up then Windows takes allot of your page file (which is much slower) that is why you have to "reboot to clear it out.

The best way to tell if you need more ram is to play the game for about 5 minutes and exit out. If it takes awhile to exit and your icons are still huge and your pc seems very slow that would mean it is time to get some more ram.

Aslo if your running Vista and only have one gig of ram your really dangourlsy low on ram as it is..
If a game takes lets say 512 megs of ram to run, remember windows takes ram as well. Vista takes around (Basic) 300 to 400 megs of ram so that right there will leave you with onlt page file and gpu memory which gets eaten up fast
