Default [Answered] dueling video cards

Client got a new build, old build was a dell gx260. Had 2 competing video cards (an nvidia and an ATI) in the old build, going out to 2 dvi cables and 1 vga cable to 3 identical monitors. New build is an upper end HP with dual pci-e slots. Put two nvidia quadro 1500 gx's in, cannot get the second to be recognized, getting an 'this device cannot be started (code 10) error'.

On his old build, somehow, someway, someone had set the system up to only use 2 monitors, and had extended the second monitor to something along the lines of 2400 pixels horizontally, while keeping the vertical aspect normal.

Anyone know how to do that trick?

For the current setup, as they are identical video cards, obviously both have the drivers installed. The entire setup on the new rig is dvi, but still going to the same 3 identical monitors. I've been wrestling with this for some time now, and it's beginning to annoy me mightily.

Thanks,

v

Friend Valis, To get the second card to work you will need to go into the device manager under the cards properties and tweak its resources. You can might get it to exist on the same irq with irq sharing but I doubt it. But you need to change the memory range and the I/O range. I wish I had more to give you> it has been a long time since we had to set the device resources manually....lol

tried that, no go....still got the 'this device cannot be started (code 10).

So I bagged it and put in a req for a 4 port video card. THAT oughta solve it.

Thanks for the assistance, LC....good to see you again.

yeah, I've noticed that too....his old rig was an older dell (260, I think) and it had ZERO problems with that issue, and the two vid cards weren't even the same mfg....

oh well. Take two steps forward, 1 back. Welcome to M$.

best regards you and yours, my friend.

Thanks, LC...yeah, I had stumbled over that a bit ago....we've got an opco that is just nuts about multiple monitors....one guy has 6, count 'em, 6 monitors hooked up to on system.....talk about overkill....

thanks again, and be safe...
