okay cheers. apparently the psus i was looking at on ebay are very dodgy and an awful choice. buying a good quality one takes away from my budget so i am now thinking of a nvidia 7600gt as a graphics card. good? crysis on med? what necessary power supply?
thanks

The recommended spec for Crysis is an NVidia 7800GTX or ATI X1800XT.

A 7600gt will still work, and not a huge change from the one you have now, will probably still work, but again, best check the power calc for a more accurate recommended spec. 330-350w maximum if you do need to upgrade.

for your hardware, i would reccomend the Geforce 8500GT. the AMD Athlon X2 3800 is not powerful enough to require the 8600. the 8500GT will suit you fine.

I agree. I know this might be a little outside of your intended budget, but it might be worth saving that little bit extra for something you'll be happy with for a while, rather than "I wish I had saved that little extra".

thanks. however i heard on gamespot that the 8500gt is pretty bad and that the 7900gt or 7800gtx is a better choice. and that the 8600gt as well gets trumped by the 7900gt and 7800gtx and the x19500 pro.

quote: As for the 8500GT, it's simply not a gaming card. It's cheap for a reason - it's marketed to users who are only looking for high movie quality and possibly video editing. For gaming purposes, the card is completely substandard.

your take?
