actually just had a look on dell they are excellent value. 793 euro: intel core 2 duo e6750 , vista premium, (i already have a fine monitor) ,320gb hard drive, nvidia 8600gt 256mb, 16 dvd rw drive. that any good? would that play crysis on high?

sorry to write another reply but you said in the post with the picture of the pci slots that old graphics cards will fit in these. how old, what models? would it be worth getting two oldish ones that can fit in these slots? thanks

errr, not.. quite.. sure where your going with this jpph, but OK.. I'll play lol.

An example of a PCI card will be: Matrox Millennium G450 PCI Graphics Card | Compare Prices - Kelkoo

You'll find that PCI cards generally cost more as they are harder to get hold of. The only people you'll find buying these types of cards, are people with older PC's that only have standard PCI as an option (no AGP or PCI-e). Where are you going jpph, do you intend to use more than one monitor?

no definitely not. scrap that about the pci cards. sorry i was forgetting that pci isnt pci-e. sorry. anyway about the 8600gt, would it be held back by my system?

Well the 8600 doesn't use that much more than the 7200, about 25-30w. Best use the extreme calc link we provided earlier for a recommended power supply calculation. I may have mentioned this before, or not, but power supplies degrade over time (capacitor aging), and consume more power. What may just about work now, may not a few months down the line.

25w-30w? my power supply is a 300w. somethings not right here.
which is better card the 7900gt or 8600gt? what power supply would be necessary for the 7900gt?
