Graphics - [Answered] what is sli? posted in the Hardware forums; Like this? These are standard PCI slots. Old graphics cards will fit into these, but these days, these PCI slots are generally used for modems, TV cards, Network cards etc....

It's does indeed, unless you swap your motherboard, but at this rate, new graphics card, PSU and motherboard you might as well buy a new PC lol.

good point. okay well il go for the 8600gt then thanks. as a matter of interest is it cheaper to buy a new pc or to upgrade all the components on your pc?

it depends. what other components do you have in your pc? if you have low end components, then the 8600GT will be held back by the rest of the PC. it could be much cheaper to buy a PC then upgrade, but that would depend on the PC you happen to buy.

Yeah at one time it was cheaper to upgrade, but not anymore. In many cases it's cheaper to buy new, especially if it's from somewhere like Dell. You can even customize your PC from their website.

well you say it could be held back, how much would amd athlon 3800+ 2ghz, 1gb drr2 sdram, and a nvidia geforce 6150 motherboard hold it back? really significantly?
i must admit im not too keen on the idea of buying a new pc, want to keep cost to minimum, just upgrade the graphics card if possible. what about the nvidia 7900? it seems to get good reviews.
