Try this one:

Windows XP Service Pack 2

Or let them send you SP2 on cd to your home for free:

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

To have SP2 installed is a good thing anyway, but relevent to your problem, it also has directx 9.0c in it included.

a good idea to have the CD, too... for backup purposes

Keeping up-to-date should be a routine... it is a necessary part of keeping yourself and others a little safer-- there are many, many viruses/trojans etc... that you are vulnerable to due to NOT being updated.
Software (like games) also plan their upgrades to apply to upgraded PC's-- newer video drivers--run on newer Operating System files
XP is ten years old now-- there are thousands of threats / hundreds of pieces of hardware / hundreds of new software apps that did not exist... when it was first written.

Updating your OS should be a normal part of your PC maintenance.

So you have no internet connection @ home?
Even dialup would be better than nothing... you can get a service plan for very little money. SP2 would take a very long time to download--it's a huge file-- but you could keep other stuff updated pretty easily. It would certainly be better than no connection-- a dial-up modem does not cost much-- and I've seen plans for as little as $7.95 per month US
No wonder you are still running XP "original".
I misunderstood your previous posts. my apologies

You downloaded the SP2 installer, you need the SP2 Redistributable. The installer is just a program that tells it what you need to upgrade to SP2, while the redist. includes everything that any PC would need to upgrade.
