Default [Answered] Graphics Card Problems

First post so here goes.

Recently moved from a ASUS 6600 128mb graphics card to a Inno3D 680GT 256mb, only problem is after installing the new card my PC will not boot, not even the boot up beep I would normally get. Card is powered by a molex cable which is not shared with any other device. The card has power, this is evident through the power light and the fact the fan is functional. I have update drivers from NVIDIA main site for series 6 drives, yet my pc refuses point blank to start up. The card has been reseatedand I have tried alternative power cables. The card is a compatible PCI-e card.

Ofcourse pop back in the old card and all works fine.

I don't have much working knowledge of hardware so any help is appreciated.

If I can give any other information I will try.

Hi Rence,

Welcome to PCHF.

Possible hardware fault with the card itself, altough there would be nothing you could do about this yourself, except send the card back if it is faulty.

Few things though before you do,

1) Try the card in another PC.
2) Make sure your PSU is powerful enough. Have a look eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5, and enter all the hardware you have in your PC. Give your PSU up to 15% for capacitor aging depending on the age of your PSU, and press "Calculate" when your finished. Make sure the total is less than wattage is less than what you currently have installed.

Yes I was under (assuming all was entered correctly), so the 500w PSU probably wont make a difference but when it arrives I will try just in case.

I have also disconnected all non essential hardware to reduce drain on the power and tried to boot up, same thing occurs and PC does not respond. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled drivers again.

I think perhaps as an EBAY purchase this may be a dud card, despite seller confirming it was tested and in good working order. I have left him a message and I am waiting a response.

Na, I think it's most likely a dudd card also, badly handled or burnt out. The card would normally still boot without the 4pin connector, but will tell you (normally when you try to play a game), that the card is not receiving enough power. What confused me a little was the PC should also be beeping at you, but maybe that problem with the card is that serious, or maybe the PC speaker is not connected? It's the risk you take with second hand goods.
