I may be blind, but I'm not seeing a video card listed. Are you using onboard? If so, you may want to reinstall the video drivers from the same site you reinstalled the sound drivers from.....that would be where I would start, at least.....let me know....

thanks,

v

hi, yup its onboard, downloaded sound, vga and agp from foxconn, installed all drivers one after the other. video worked fine for a while (i say a while, briefly tested it) then it started hanging up (freezing). have read bits about 3D AGP hanging up so assume its that. wasnt sure which files to open as there were so many executable files in the agp and vga driver downloads. (the site i got them off was a link posted to me by mad monkey under the forum sound etc, cant miss us, four pages of it)

well, generally agp is going to be a card you add, not an onboard video card. agp stands for accelerated graphics port, and as such, is merely a port that you install a card in. Go to start > run > dxdiag > no to that highly annoying popup box > display tab and let us know what the device name (s/b on the left) is....

thanks,

v

yeah, that's an onboard video card. I'll do some checking for you to see if there is an upgrade to the main driver, give me a few......

FWIW, if you are going to get into some higher level games, you will need to get an upgrade in that department. That's the bad news. Good news is you can get a pretty decent video card for under $100 US these days, so that's not that exorbitant.....that may very well solve a lot of the stuttering you are having as well.

if I may "horn in"... the reason for that is that "onboard setups" rarely have their own --specifically designed-- "video-RAM" it may have some --but almost never enough-- so the it starts using your main system RAM... to "boost" itself-- if you have many other things running-- or just one big item-- you start running out of RAM to use... it can't keep everything going so the gaming suffers.
That's why those who game a LOT have really high-end systems...
w/tons of RAM/ ultrafast harddrives /really expensive video-cards (sometimes two !)/extra cooling.... it is a whole 'nother world.
It is not uncommon for a serious gamer to spend $4000.00 US --or more on a system... and he/she might upgrade from there once or twice.

Sometimes you can temporarily boost your ram -- and lessen the load... by disabling a lot of your background-running programs temporarily. Keeping you security on-- unless you diconnect from the web.
