Question [Answered] Gfx Card Memory.

Hey all , My gfx card is set to 64mb, I thought it always was that, but when I was on boot and was looking around to enable my second drive(still trying to get dvd writer working) I noticed that I could set it up to 128mb or down to 32mb. I always knew I could set it to 32mb because from ages ago when I was looking around. About 3 months ago I put in a 1 gig ram stick in my computer, and haven't checked the boot settings or w/e its called since I put in that 1 gig,

So here is what I'm asking.

Did the 1gig make it that I could set my gfx card up to 128mb or is my pc ******* up also would it be better to put it up to 128mb from 64mb.

Also if you would have a look at this thread and help me out.

Cheers,
Darryl.

Welcome to the PCHF Darryl,

What you have is a motherboard that has "shared memory"

Meaning you can pull system memory away, and assign it to your video card...the benefit is obvious, the drawbacks are similarily (spelling) obvious too.

Depending on how much game playing you do, setting it to 128mb won't actually do much in just Windows. In games it might be a bit better. As it's all onboard, it's still going to be limited.

Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

@DM - Yes installing the increased RAM has probably given you more latitude for the shared portion of the memory. I would however, only set it higher if you need it. It may not be necessary if your PC is responding the way you want it to with the current settings.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey DM,

Glad to hear it. Pretty sneaky getting that other issue in, but sure we can take a look.

If you want to keep your PC running well, make sure to keep it backed up, protected with an Anti-Virus, at least one Anti-Spyware, and a Firewall, and remember to do your maintenance, defrag, keep the temp folders emptied, etc.. Also, keep your hardware monitored, so that if something does start to go, you can address it before it causes too much damage.

I'm going to mark this one as Answered. See you in your other thread.
