Default [Answered] agp pro socket with agp 8x card, will it work

hi all, i just joined, looks to be some serious stuff going on here, hope you can help me, LOL.

i have a spare and known working AGP 8x graphic card.

i have a computer with a duff PCI graphic card and it has an empty AGP 4x socket, it looks as if the 8x card will fit, but a short section at each end of the socket wont make contact with the card, IS THIS RIGHT ? i ask

according to the manual for the motherboard, page 4, it should fit and work, the manaul says it is an AGP PRO socket, but before i commit myself i thought i should ask the learned membership here !.

i do have a second hand PCI graphic card in the post from an ebay auction, but it would be handy if i could make use of this AGP card.

Welcome to the PCHF Tim,

The card will work fine - as long as the AGP port isn't faulty.

8x AGP was backwards compatable with 4x, it will just run slower.

Good luck
