Default Drivers cuasing pc to crash ( help pls)

I recently reformatted my computer ot get rid of everything and start over new. I try to install my nvidia drivers that came with my video card on a CD and half way through the installation, my screen goes black and and my pc restarts. I run windows in safemode and the drivers were installed successfully, so i restart again. This time windows won't even load, after the Windows XP screen comes up, my pc's screen in black for about 10 seconds and my pc restarts. I uninstall the drivers in safemode and the pc then reboots normally and try again, same problem again. I tried some downloaded drivers and this time the same thing.

I am about 90% sure it's my video card, but before i formatted, the video card was working perfectly fine. Could it be my windows? help pls!

Hey dogfood,

Welcome to PCHF.

It may be the way it was installed, some drivers can be a bit fussy! What graphics card do you have? And when you installed it, did you go through the "Found New Hardware" wizard first or the installer from the CD?

i am currently using BFG TECG fgorce 7600gt 256 mb gddr3. I actually tried both ways and both gave me the same result but the first time i installed it from the CD. This time after I format my pc ill do it with the found new hardware wizard.

Hey dogfood,

Everything OK?

If your still having problems, can you download the latest NVidia driver here: ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit

A lot of the video drivers that are supplied on cd are normally a bit buggy. There may still be a problem with the card, but there may have been a workaround to get the card going such as reducing hardware acceleration.
