Default Nvidia Graphics Help!

Sorry, I'm not really sure where to post it so please relocate it if it is in the wrong section! So I recently just repaired my computer with my Windows Setup disk and it's finally back up. It looks like I have to reinstall my Nvidia driver so I downloaded the driver but it won't budge. This error would pop up:

"The Nvidia Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Also, another problem is that when I got to my Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager.. there is no "Display" +tab. When I also right click the desktop and enter properties into the Settings>Advance>Adapter.. all the Adapter Information is <unavailable>.

I read somewhere that I might have to download and install a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) chipset driver first followed by the Nvidia driver. I also used the Everest program and found that my Motherboard chipset might have to be updated as well or something? My current chipset that Everest showed was:

Northbridge AMD Hammer IMC Chipset
Southbridge (temporary)

I can't find any place to download the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter anywhere. For the AMD Hammer IMC Chipset driver, when I try installing the AMD Driver Pack it doesn't allow me to as well.

My graphics card is the nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. To be honest, I'm not really sure what that all means. It seems like it's just one problem after another. I'm thinking about just reinstalling Windows XP Professional but I'm not sure if that is the best idea right now or if it will do anything at all. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it, I'm so lost right now! Thanks in advance, I will try to replay ASAP if other questions are required. God Bless!

Have you installed the motherboard drivers from the manufacturers cdrom after re-installing XP?

Only then install the nVidia drivers...

I installed the 5500 on my system a month or two ago, and put the old Geforce 2 in my parents' PC. I had to install the VGA driver before I could get things to work smoothly. IIRC, you need to go into device manager, right click the display adapter, click Update Driver, and install the VGA driver that way.

Hi gamer_gus, welcome to the PC Help Forum.

Alot of the newer drivers don't actually support the older video cards - i suggest going to nVIDIA Geforce 8800 7950 7900 7600 GT GTX ATi Radeon x1950 x850 x1900 x1800 1600 XT Pro - Guru of 3D: PC Hardware Reviews and download a set of drivers from around 2 years ago...and try installing them.

If that doesn't work - make sure the video card is properly powered and plugged into the motherboard.

You can get all of the old nVidia graphics card drivers from here. A 71.84 driver would be ok for your GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. I use this one on a old 5200 clunker I have as well...
