It's been twice now that I go away for a little while, and when I get back and move my mouse the screen is one big artifact. Like you know when you have a really old monitor and you put in a really big resolution, it displays all kinds of ****? Well it looked a bit like that. only you couldn't distinguish the start menu from the rest for instance, it was just one big color and some stripes not quite horizontally.

My PC was OK though, because I could log in and even restart using the keyboard and some 'feeling' :P Then I booted up again (it was stand-by actually) and it worked fine again.

I am using an AOpen Geforce 6800LE, DVI and a LG 20" Widescreen TFT. I just installed the new drivers so I probably shouldn't be posting this, but maybe anyone knows more about this problem by coincidence? Do you think it may be overheating somehow?

Heya Ge64, i have had this problem myself - it was with my old 4200 - i just disabled hibernation and stand-by...never used them - ever - and it was easier to just shut down.

However, I believe it's related to drivers - if you are still having issues with these new drivers you have installed, let me know

Hm I installed the new drivers but I wish I hadn't, now every time I restart it resets the settings (including the resolution, to 640x480 or some other *unbearably* small (or big, depends on how you look at it ) res) heheheh. When I open properties -> settings -> advanced it gives me an error about not being able to display the nVidia control panel, because of a version mismatch. I suppose the driver update didn't work right? I did it twice so I'll just wait for the next driver to appear and install that, I don't restart anyway (i usually use stand by. my PC is way to messy to wait for it to boot in the morning )

The problem is fixed though afaik so the thread can be marked as answered. (unless I can do that myself then I will hehheh)

Excellent news that it's fixed now Ge64.

If you're still having problems with the res- try rebooting into safe mode and reinstalling the drivers there.
