Thumbs down [Answered] Maybe my video card is broken?

I just put my computer together today and when i turn it on, everything seems to turn on. The motherboards lights turn on, my harddrives work and everything, but i dont think my video cards getting any power. when the computer turns on, the monitor just shows the red green blue test and says, this monitor is working. but there is a chance that theres just not enough power going to the video card? ...since i do only have a 300 watt power supply. I did use another power supply to see if it would make a difference, but it didnt work. that one was 420. Im confused.

Specs:

Video Card: Radeon X1900GT

Mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium

Power Supplies Used: ISO 300W
Raidmax 420W

And i was thinking, since my motherboard has a nvidia chipset, would an ati chipset videocard work on it?

Hi rayboto,

Na ATI will work with it, and normally the PC won't boot at all if there is not enough power for everything.

Do you have another monitor you could try? Possibly a friend's?

yea that didnt work.

I think i forgot to say that i can just turn the computer off with the off button after it has been running for a few minutes. Usually you cant do that if its loaded windows or something like that, only if its on the bootscreen or something, but i can jsut shut it off, so its like...the harddrive isnt working or something... is it possible to plug the harddrive into the wrong sata slot? : / hrm...maybe ill try a harddrive from my brothers comp to see if it boots...

No, you can set your PC to turn off in two different ways. Your power button is probably set to "Instant Off". This can be changed in BIOS as you start your PC, normally [DEL] or [F2].

Do you see the post screen, or is it blank from the moment you turn your PC on? You may need to take out your graphics card and reseat it, maybe loose?
