Default [Answered] Best way to run two monitors

Hi Guys

What is the best way to set up a PC to run two TFT monitors via DVI output?

I am assuming that if I used a splitter to run the two monitors off one connection it would it only show the same output on both screens.

I want to be able to use both screens indipendantly ie. have different windows open on each one or maybe pan across the two.

Is the best way to get a garaphics card with two DVI outputs? or possibly two seperate cards or is there another way?

You would get the same output if you ran through a splitter.

It would probaly be best to buy a graphics card with two dvi outputs im sure there is plenty around.

Hi Questor.

There are some splitters around that allow you to do this, tend to be more expensive, and dramatically drain the resources of your graphics card. Here is an example of one:

Matrox DualHead2Go: $169.95

In my opinion, your much better purchasing a video card that can handle and supports dual VGA. Most NVidia cards these days come with both a VGA and DVI port.

TrustedReviews - nVidia GeForce 6600 GT - Preview

All of this is also dependant on what you are doing with the card. I think the first option is definately out of the window if you use your PC for gaming for example.

EDIT: Sorry upgrader, didn't realise you posted.

Thx guys.

I thought the best option would be a new card. The problem is I will want one with duel DVI outputs, rather than duel VGA, and they are a bit harder to find (at the right price).
