Default [Answered] I have $100CAD and need a graphic card

Currently, my system is undergoing some problems and is waiting to be fixed with the help of the administrators of this forum. Thanks. But once it's finished I want to waste no time in picking up a card that i need badly.

The card must be able to support

BF2142
CS: Source
and all the new games within the 2006-2007 period

Req: Must be able to support and run these games smoothly with a constant FPS of 60 or higher under the high settings and high res of 1600x1400 This is what i need. I have 100 cad and would like to know what card would cater to this. AGP slot alos. If neccessary, the settings can go down to medium or low as long as it runs the game smoothly at the 60+ fps and has a min res of 800x600. Thats as low I'm will to go. thanks

All I can suggest is to have a look around here, and find the best card you can get for your $100.00 TigerDirect

Hi crayon

the best video card you can get for AGP is a 7800GS....however...this video card will not meat the requirements of most 2007 games to play them in full detail...no graphics card, be it AGP or PCI-e will be able to...even if you have SLI or Crossfire....nothing will be able to compete with a DX10 card when they come out..and unfortunately...it's only coming out for PCI-e.

That being said - CS:S isn't the most graphically intensive game out anymore, and can easily be handled by the 7800GS....BF2142...not sure what engine it's using...and TBH, I'm not going to play it and haven't been following the development sorry. If it's the same as BF2, then it will run fine.

Id really like to spend as little as possible on a card , but I really want it to be able to handle cs source and bf2142 at high settings. But if i can spend less than 100 that would be great. I've checked tiger direct for the 7800gs but it looks like its 200+

What i also want to know is how come certain cards with higher MB are sometimes cheaper than the ones with lower MB?

Then there are also ones of the same price, how do you determine which card is better for the price?

Well crayon,

You have stated that graphics are important to you. that being said you shouldnt be looking for a cheap card. 60fps on newer games will require you to spend a little more. if you dumb down the settings on a game then you can get away with spending 80 or 90 dollars on a decent card. you should choose gameplay over graphics.

Mbs on a card is good but you should look at the clock speed of the card. the speed is just as important as the MB.

do you have any recommendations as to a card that would be good? I was thinking maybe the geforce fx 5500 256mb or maybe an ATI one that was 400mhz clock speed?
