Default New Graphics Card Problems

Greetings All,

My friend and I researched for a while to buy new graphics cards for our Sony Vaio systems. We knew we needed a graphics card that was under 400w requirements. So we went with one that was 300w requirement for the PC power supply figuring that it wouldn't be a problem. My system is doing great with the new card (after I found the drivers that work correctly) his on the other hand is giving Blue Screen of Death Messages with the error

IRQL Not Less or Equal

We have done a Memtest on his system and there is no errors.
We have tried 2 different sets of drivers (making sure to remove all the old drivers in safe mode with drivecleaner pro.)
His tempratures are lower then mine on my pc
We have updated the card bios
Have checked for a update on the PC Bios (there isn't any)
We have reinstalled the motherboard drivers just in case something was missing.
We have tested his hard drive to make sure it was not a problem.

There was not a problem before the card was installed so I am guessing it is the card or the drivers just have not been compatable with his pc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated in this matter. I know that IRQL error can be a number of things but I have tried to rule out as many as I could find.

Below is his stats for his pc please let me know if I leave anything out that is important

2.8 Ghz Intel Dual Core Proce3ssor
800 MHZ Front Bus Speed
Intel 945P Chipset
1 Gig of DDR2 4200 533 Mhz Ram
250 Gig Western Digital Hard Drive
Gigabyte Realtime TV Encoder Tuner Card
Gigabyte 7600 GS Graphics Card (this is the card that was just added)
364.7 wats Power Supply
1 PCI-E x 16 Slot
2 PCI Slots
I PCI-E x 1 Slot

Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer!!

Hya Intent, welcome to PCHF.

To rule out the card itself, could you switch the cards and see how they work then?

I wish it were possible that would have been one of the steps I would have tried.

Unfortunately the distance is a bit much for me to be able to do that.

He has mentioned getting another card but, since it is so new would like to use it as a last resort.

Then I would uninstall the motherboard and video drivers, and reinstall them starting with the motherboard. (updated if available) And make sure he has the latest directx installed: (8/23/2006)

Download details: DirectX Redist August 2006

Have you tried removing the new video card, and booting up off the original one?

If it's not a hardware issue, the BSOD will still show up. If it is a hardware issue...the BSOD will not show up and you can safely say it's the video card itself causing the problem.

I have tried to remove the card, and it does not do it without the card in place.

I have found a new set of drivers specifically for Gigabyte Nvidia Cards

I think my DirectX is up to date but I am going to make sure it is tomorrow and also try the new Gigabyte Drivers.

I guess if neither one of those items fix my issue then I am going to have to RMA the card.

As much research as I put into buying the right card it is just aggrevating to have so many problems.

I am kicking myself for not going with ATI (went away from Nvidia years ago because I had to many problems with it, but the Nvidia card looked so awesome on paper!)

Thank you all for all the support you have given it has helped a lot....

Not all is lost yet, let us know how you go with our suggestions, and we'll go from there

Good luck!
