Default [Resolved] Graphic Card Problem

Ok, here's the problem.

I got a "newer" computer few weeks ago. Nothing special, but it's better than the one I had before. Installing everything went smoothl, no problems with that.

Then, after everything was done, my graph card started to act on it's own. Sometimes it freezes the screen and it takes from 5 to 10 secs for the picture to come back, or sometimes my whole computer freezes. And, the times the picture DOES come back, it's possible that my graph card has decided to drop my resolution to 800x600 and colors to 8-bit... My graph card is ATI Saphhire Radeon 9200. Sometimes, not everytime, ATI's CCC, Catalyst Control Center, gives an error message that says that it has disabled my graphic accelerator, because it wasn't responding. So yeah...

So, I've tried different driver packs from the official ones at ATI's homepage, that come with Catalyst 6.5, but it keeps freezing with those. I've let Windows look for newer drivers too, but those ones don't work either. So, I looked for some other driver packs and this one I have now, 7.992 something is the most stable so far.

Weird thing is that the graph card worked just fine on my old computer. Had no problems with it. I'm thinking I might have some problems with BIOS, but I'm no expert.

Some info on everything:

Processor: 1.2Mhz AMD Duron. MEM: 512RAM.
Momboard: VIA Technologies, KT400A
Graph card: ATI Sapphire Radeon 9200 AGP,
Current driver pack: 7.992[numbers]
OS: Win XP Pro

I think it's a BIOS problem. There's really no other option here. I do have the lastest BIOS updates, I think. I don't need a good graph card, so I really wouldn't want to go buy a new one... And I'm a poor student anyways, heh. So, any ideas anyone?

Hi jawniHawni, and welcome to the PCHF!

I don't believe your problem is related to your BIOS - it's a 1 of 2 things

1) Windows
2) Power

What size powersupply do you have?

It was the graph card that was messing around... A family friend happened to have an extra graph card and I was lucky enough to be there when he found it, so I got it for free. It's ATI's too, 9600 series and it's working perfectly. I got it this morning.

Yeah, and sorry about posting at the wrong place. I didn't check if there was any other place to post this. I don't know if I'll ever come around in here, but thanks anyways for trying to help, even though it was in vain really. Heh.

G'day to you all!
