Default [Answered] How does one find compatible graphics cards?

Firstly, i'm new, don't expect me to hang around much either, as i'm only here to ask a single question. As the topic suggests, I am looking to buy a new graphics card. I've checked alot out, and I think i'll go with something in the Nvidia Geforce range. I have heard of websites of computer manufacturers having manuals for each of their PC models, listing, among other things, graphics cards that are compatible with that model. Any directions?

If it helps, I have:

- RAM: 1 gig
- Manufacturer of PC: AsusTeK. Model: A7N8X2.0
- Current video card: Nvidia Geforce 5600FX

I'm looking to play Oblivion, and a video card with insufficient specs. seems to be the only wall in my path to my goal.

Hope you can help.

- James.

Hi James, welcome to PCHF!

I'm sure if you need any other questions answered that you may have, we'll definatly be able to help as we have a great deal of skillful techs here.

To help you in your choice - I would suggest an ATI video card (now AMD) as they have extra graphical options in Oblivion. However, the best ATI card you can get will be a x1600, whereas the best nVidia card you can get is a 7800GS

You need AGP, so anything that is PCI-e is a big no no. Check out this list here...gives you a great list of the cards you are able to chose from.

Hrmm...works for me...

Just goto www.auspcmarket.com.au and select Video Cards -> AGP and that will give you the same list

GL!

I did that already. And since i'm in Australia, it's given me a list of basic prices for them too. nVidia cards seem much more expensive than APG ones, are they of better quality/performance?

Personally, ATI (AMD now) have the better image quality.

ATI's image quality is so vibrant and unbelievably colourful, whereas nVidia...they're just that - nVidia..they've got the technology, and they like to flaunt it..but they don't have the love

I highly recommend ATI...the only reason I don't have one right now, is due tothe fact of the deal I got this video card for - it was unbeatable!

Also, check this website out - www.staticice.com.au - you enter the name of the part you want, and it searches almost all online shops and returns the current prices of that part you requested.

That being said - AusPC Market, is more expensive then alot of places - but the customer service is without flaw - next day delivery anywhere in australia (unless it's country road) and all the prices include shipping & handeling.
