Exclamation Red Lines Screen Stuffups - Video card or not? HELLLLLPPP!!!

Hi
I desperately would love people's help / ideas with my problem...
it is intermittent screen problem that originally only occurred when certain programs were open ie. Outlook, pasting between Word and Internet, and with some games.

Now it happens 2-6 times a day ... with everything and everything!!!

The screen gets more and more red lines, fuzzes, where-ever the mouse moves is a moving little square red fuzz. It gets to the point that I cannot see anything on the screen - the lines actually 'paint' on thicker and thicker. The ONLY cure is to completely reboot!!!
I have 3 levels of bad to worse examples of screenshots at http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/3...tuffup35iq.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4...062opt24sj.jpg

My video card is a Radeon 7000 Pro, also titled Radeon 7000e Graphics Accelerator AV64S-T
I have tried updating the driver, removing the driver, etc. The fan IS working on the card itself.
Video card details:

http://www.3dchip.de/grafikkarten/gigabyte-radeon.php

It is definitely not the monitor or monitor cable as I just got a new monitor.
Computer is 4 1/2 years old but was high end for it's time as I did 3d animation, etc.

I did recently have the power source box replaced, my computer was over heating for 3-6 days. Don't know if that cause other problems but this has been occuring over past few years.
Does anyone think it is the video card or something else?
Cheers
Karinya

Hi Karinya,

Welcome to PC Help Forum!!

Have you tried changing your screen resolution in the display panel (right click desktop > properties > settings), or changing the screen refresh rate (right click desktop > properties > settings > advanced > monitor tab)? Just trying to see if it's a non-hardware related problem first of all.

Thanks

Scouse.

Hi Scouse!
Thanks for your response... hmmm my settings for the screen resolution is set at 1280 x 1024... it is a brand new Samsung 960BF 19" monitor. (However this problem did occur on my previous monitor as well as this new one).
I had a look at the refresh rate - it is set at 60 Hertz, with the possibility of going as high as 120 hertz?! LOL I have no idea what is the best setting? Can you recc.?
Cheers, Karinya
(PS. Ta for one thing you fixed which I didn't even list - and that is the new monitor has no buttons, so all resolution is done via software. Via desktop you just showed me a better way to dull down the brightness that has been killing me!! LOL. So ta!!)

That's my sixth sense kicking in again!!

Try running on 75 Hertz and see if it makes any difference. In the meantime, i'm gonna keep looking into this to try and find out more for you.

Hey Scouse
Ta for reply again. Have switched over to 75 hertz - will see how this goes! It seemed to make the screen a little fuzzier when doing that... but i'll see how it goes after a reboot.
Would appreciate anything else you find... I have tried searching but don't even know what to call it LOL.
Cheers
Karinya

Unhappy Still need help!!!!

Hi again all...
Unfortunately refresh rate of 75 hertz has not changed anything.
i had previously tried updating the driver which made it worse. I put the original disk in and ran it the other day as well - I had 3-4 days of no problems....
NOW it is worse than usual.

Unique red-line crash experience occurs every 10-25 min, esp. when using word, internet and pasting between programs.
ARGHHHH.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Karinya
