Default Problem installing new vid card

Hi there~

So I had an MSI TI4200 128mb video card. Ran very well for a long time but was being taxed by some of the newer games. It was a great card that allowed some pretty strong overclocking.

Anyway, Yesterday I bought a PNY G-Force 6600. It went in fine, drivers installed fine. When I went to "Display" in the control panel, the MSI overclocking tabs were still there. I don't know if they should be or if they'll do anything for my PNY card.

In Device Manager the new card shows up. Should I assume that everything is fine?

Also, I ran Quake 4 and had the game pick the graphic settings. It went to the lowest setting for everything! With my 128mb card I had better settings set than this.

Thoughts?

AMD Athlon 2600 @ 2.11ghz
512 mb pc 2700 ram ( I have another 512 to put in)
PNY Gforce 6600 256mb video card
Soyo Ultra Dragon Platinum mb

Thanks!

Hey there Arastar,

Open your Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything to do with your MSI graphics card.

Then download the latest driver for your current card from the nvidia website, install them and restart your computer.

Try running the game again, if it sets the display to the lowest setting then try bump it up manually and see how well it performs.

Hi and thanks for the reply~

Yea, I had done that already. Found MSI Turbo Experience still on the system and removed that.

When I go back to Display in Control Panel, the MSI tabs are still there. I really don't even know if they'll effect my current card. It's hard to tell. If I adjust the clock speed in MSI when the computer restarts they're back to the default settings.

MSI tabs are still there.
:undecided
Very strange that those tabs are still there, can you try browsing to your c:\program files directory and see if there is an MSI folder, if there is then see if there is an uninstall file in there and run it.
  • Otherwise are you using the latest driver for your new video card?
  • Have you tried turning the graphics up manually in the game and seeing how well it performs?
  • Did Quake work better on your old card or not?
