Basically Ive installed the cpu,fan,motherboard & gfx card & formatted the hd & performed a new install of xp. Now ive noticed the problem doesnt arise untill i install the graphics drivers supplied with the card. When i set up the gfx card (which is pci express) i get an error on the display. This occurs when i scroll down pages, move open windows & programs. When i do this the window becomes distorted with horizontal pixalted lines. Heres some pictures to better describe the problem ;

The 2nd picture looks much worse than it did on my screen (i was only trying to show the problem occuring on the open window on this 1). The 1st is a good example of what happens when i scroll down a webpage.

Here are some things i have done to try & resolve this -
- Got the latest gfx drivers & tried to upgrade from the 1s supplied & also tried to do a new install from the lastest version.
- Installed the latest direct x from miscrosofts website & all tests done with direct x appear ok & no problems are shown.
-Ive checked the conection of the gfx card to the mobo & the video cable to the back of the gfx card & all monitor cables.
-Ive tried another monitor which has no effect.
-Ive tried several resolutions & refresh rates but all make no difference.
-Ive even formatted since & done a full clean install from scratch again but the problem persists.

Ive only tried 1 game so far, batllefield 2. The game loads ok but i have a glitch on the overhead map which doesnt display properly. Also the game randomly freezes for long periods or sometimes completely freezes up the system & only a hand reset will get the pc back on!

Any help would really be appreciated on this as it feels like ive pretty much tried everything i can think of but any suggestions are welcome. Sorry if this is a bit long.
If any further info is required please let me know. Thanks again.

Hya Zom-B , welcome to PCHF.

You have already tried this driver?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

Have you also installed (updated) motherboard drivers?

And what kind of powersupply do you have in there? (brand and watts)

But im thinking a defective vga card from the looks of it..

Thanks for the reply. Ive used the winxp_2k_81.98 driver from the nvidia site & this made no change.
Ive not got the latest mobo drivers, so i'll look into that. Im currently in work so im not 100% sure on the power supply but im pretty sure its 400w. Ill check this in a couple of hours & let u know then, ill also try get the drivers for the mb. Thanks again for the suggestions.

....Im just on the nvidia site....would i be able to try the xp media center drivers or the xp pro 64 drivers??? Or is this a bad idea?

450w should be enough , but i cant seem to find anything on that brand of psu..
Either im not looking right , or it could indicate its a real cheap generic psu.

It could be the cause of youre problems , but i think it is more likely a defective video card.
Do you have an other psu to test with , or can you try the video card in an other pc?

Also have a look at the voltages of youre psu with this app ,and report back the result please:

PS , i wouldn't try the 64 bit or media center drivers , unless you have that version of windows.

I couldnt find much on the net either about the psu. Heres a link for what came up when i searched for the model number. This isnt my psu though as mine doesnt have orange wires & a blue light. The model number is ky-550atx.
http://www.atruereview.com/raidmax_550_psu/index.php

Here are the results from the speed fan program;

Fan1:0 RPM
Fan2: 2083 RPM

Temp1: 32c
Temp2: 40c
HDO: 30c

VCORE: 1.34V
+3.3V: 3.33V
+5V: 5.00V
+12V: 11.37V
-12V: 0.47V

-5V: 1.69V
+5VSB: 5.51V
VBAT: 2.05

If you need any further info please let me know.

Ive now put my old agp card back in, fortunately my new motherboard supports both agp & pci. The motherboard can support 6600gt's & ive tried the driver version shown on the motherboards website but this hasnt fixed the problem. Nvidia arnt really interested unless its a driver problem which obviously it cant be.
Ive read the thread about the 6600's needing lots of power. So if you could tell me if you think this is a psu problem i'd be really greatful. If you think the power supply is fine then i will be returning the card this weekend. Thanks again for the advice so far.
