Default [Resolved] graphics card not recieving enough power prompt box!

hey everyone,

slightly odd issue with my home pc. i am running windows 98se and have an nvdia geForce 5900XT graphics card. i loaded up my computer one day and went into mindows media player to play some music. the prompt box that says "your graphics card is not recieving enough power... your system performance will be lowered" randomly pops up whenever i click on an artist - in the media library - or when i play a song! sometimes multiple boxes pop up at once! never had this problem before and it only started doing this recently! perhaps my power supply is going. think its about 400w, but that should be ample for my system! i read somewhere about making sure a 4 pin plug is plugged into the 4 pin connector in the back of the card (possibly just for that specific card). any ideas / help?

thank you all

Hi Darkmo the answer is yes, your card should be pluged into the the 4 pin connecter, that runs from your power supply.

Welcome to PCHF

You do need to plug a "molex" (little white power plug) into the rear-end of your graphics card.

@a nobody: well ididnt know if mine was plugged in or not. i just read that on another forum.

however my computer started up in safe mode for some reason yesterday. so i shut down the computer and openend her up. the molex IS plugged into the back of the graphics card. so i loaded up the bios and the cpu temperature was sitting at around 85?! would i be right in saying that its not the graphics card itself, but the cpu fan that is producing this problem? (by the way, i checked this morning and the cpu temperature was back down to around 35? but still getting this prompt box popping up when playing or selecting music!)

Check your PSU power output - if it's below 400w then you're going to need a new one by the sounds of it.
