2 problems!
1. I cannot install IE7. My default browser is chrome and I wanted to access the microsoft downloads site which was only possible through IE. Having deleted IE, I had to reinstall. Downloading of file and installation went well. However, upon restart of PC - loading of windows, this message appears:
this operation has been restrictred due to effects of restrictions by the administrator.
And the IE installation just terminates without warning. Problem is, i am the administrator, i am logged into administrator account and i have never restricted IE in any way!
2. When I run cmd prompt, it states in cmd window that 'the command prompt has been disabled by the administrator.' Again, I have never restricted the cmd prompt!
Can anyone help? I have no idea when did these problems started but i did some major changes to my pc today. AVG and adaware were uninstalled and replaced by AVAST, Spybot and Advanced System Care 3. In addition, i disable some processes in msconfig that were non essential - googled each individually before disabling. XP user btw.
I did a search on my problems and realized that the immunization procedure of spybot could be the cause, as in here. However, unchecking all the boxes for windows and internet explorer didn't help.
help!

Open My Documents or any other Windows Explorer page and type in the address bar:
C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc (or copy and paste it) then hit enter and it should open up. If you look under User Configuration > Administrative Templates you should find the options you need to change. The other option is to try a System Restore to a time when it was working. If you can't access gpedit.msc then it sounds like you have some malware or virus which has disabled your admin priveleges. |

What version of windows are you using if its xp home it doesnt have gpedit.msc. either way if you go here and download reset reboot and you will be admin again(do not run it twice as it will disable it the second time).
You should see what else is disabled like regedit a lot of malware will do this and once you have admin back its worth doing the prework and let our security team check you out Last edited by samuria; 2 Weeks Ago at 12:09 AM. |
