Hi!
I'm hoping that I'm posting in the correct forum here, if not I apologise. Not being very good with computers, I also apologise if this is a rather daft/easy to solve problem.
My operating system is Windows XP Home and my broswer (if it's anything to do with this) is IE8.
The problem: I've been using a program (ComicRack, for reading digital comics) for the past year or so without a hitch but in the past couple of days every time I try to run the program I instantly get a warning box and the message "ComicRack.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, we're sorry for the inconvenience" etc.
I've tried uninstalling the program (and a box pops up saying that full uninstall has been successful) and then reinstalling but with no luck. I've also tried installing slightly different versions of the same program but get the same .exe fail message every time.
I recently executed a System Restore to a point from a month ago, but other than that I don't *think* I've changed anything about my PC set-up. I tried to undo that System Restore in the hope that I'd go back to where I started and get ComicRack back but I just ended up with a message that reversing the System Restore was unsuccessful. I don't want to try anything else in case I'm screwing things up even worse.
Can anyone give me some advice as to why this program suddenly won't open, or how I can now fix it? Any help would be hugely appreciated, thank you.

Thank you, Smokeycheech.
I've got another Open thread for a problem here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/internet-...rtificate.html just in case that ties in to this one. I don't want to take up two different people's time if it's all part of the same thing. Cheers! |

Hmmm yes, I apologise I didn't see your other thread!
It is very possible that a malware infection could be causing the symptoms described in this thread! I will close this thread for now, and if when your malware issue has been fixed you are still having this issue we will reopen it and get a tech involved ![]() Sound good to you? Smokeycheech

Hi! As noted in my other thread, someone has been kind enough to help me clear out any malware that I was infected with, but unfortunately this hasn't helped with either of my original problems.
If this thread could now be reopened that would be much appreciated. Thank you! |

Apologies to anyone working on this issue for me but I've gone ahead and solved it myself (I think). I've individually deleted a bunch of Windows updates back to the point where I started having a problem (which I assumed had already happened with System Restore, but I'm beginning to realise that Microsoft updates are like weeds and they just keep coming back). I deleted Microsoft Framework something-or-other 3.5 and suddenly my application works fine again.
I know this probably isn't the most elegant solution, and if anyone has any advice I'm still more than happy to listen and try and follow it, but for the moment I'm happy to say *#@$ you Microsoft updates (at least this Framework 3.5 nonsense) and have a working app. Thanks to smokeycheech for the replies, and to anyone who may have been working on this. |
