Hi all, hopfully you can help me with a problem, when i insert a blank disc, the pc shuts down and i get an error mesage saying you have recovered from a serious error, some times you get as far as clicking the burn button, and other times just inserting a blank disc, thankyou for any help Ramses

If it is only blank discs that cause this then I'm thinking malware.
If with all discs then possibly a power issue. Try unplugging all external devices that take power from the PC e.g. USB's. Is this a new problem or is this the first time you have used the drive? Please add your PC specs to your profile so we can all help you easier. What operating system are you using? |

There was some worms going around that exploited the Autorun features built into Windows - could be something along those lines. Can you get into Safe Mode and do a virus scan?
Also, it could be trying to launch software with a corrupted install and crashing. Re-install any burning software you have installed and try it again.

Hey guys, yes only to blank discs, the problem is a newish one, the drive has been ok for about 5 years, im on xp, amd 2800, 1 gig of memory,just tryed to burn a disc using the media player and nero as well, same result, auto shut down with the mesage error, thankyou again for any help Ramses

The optical drive is 5 years old?

The drive is seriously long in the tooth Ramses, I'd consider obtaining a new one.
