Default Is it time for a new computer?

Hi! This morning while trying to start the computer we found that it would ask if I wanted to start the computer normally (I would), then it would show the screen with ESC for boot, F1, F10 for system recovery; and then it would show the Windows logo and start the whole process over again. I also tried to start it in Safe Mode with Networking which didn't work, and in Safe Mode...It froze up. I have Carbonite so hopefully, my family photos are safe.

I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice...should I have someone look at it, or is it time to invest in a new more up-to-date computer. This is a HP Pavillion a1250n (1G of memory and 250GB of hard drive). As is probably evident, I don't know much about this stuff (time just doesn't permit me to learn it right now), so some guideance would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

It sounds like something went funny with your XP install. You could probably just back your stuff up and do a re-install or repair and things might be good to go again. You could always install Windows 7 instead ...

As for upgrading your computer - it can never hurt, but depending on what you're doing, it may not be necessary. Tell us a bit about what you use the PC for, and give a little more information about your current hardware and we can let you know a little better.

As stated above, it has 1 gb of memory, 250 gb of hard drive, and it also has an AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Processor. It's used for kid's computer games, surfing the web, family pictures (downloading & burning), photography programs (Photoshop. With it up it's almost impossible to multitask), and we make a lot of documents. Also, viewing TV and listening to music. (:

I was thinking upgrading to a computer with like three to four gb of ram and a larger hard drive and a much better processor would be a good idea?

Well, you're running a dual-core AMD cpu, your hard drive is a decent size, but you probably want to grab a little but more RAM. I'd say for most of what you're using the system for, it's not too shabby. If you're using Photoshop a lot, I probably would invest in a better system. A nice quad-core cpu, and at least 3 or 4 GB of RAM, and your system would fly.
