Question New Firefox problem

I'm back but with a slightly different problem. As I said the Bookmark problem was solved and all seemed well until yesterday when I got a popup in Firefox suggesting that I should download the latest version, 5.4.

Unfortunately I did so. When the downlaod was complete and I had clicked to open Firefox I got an error message. Fool that I am I didn't record the detail so all I can remember is that it said that something could not be found so Firfox could not be opened.

I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but with the same result. I uninstalled it again and reinstalled v5.3. That installed and all seeemed well except that the ZoneAlarm ForceField tool bar was missing even though Add-ons shows it correctly and if I right click on the icon in the quick launch bar I can open a Private Browser.

Now I don't know whether or not ForceField is working. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello halsgrandad,welcome back.

Just when i was thinking about updating Firefox.

Does ZoneAlarm allow you to go back in and put the tool bar back, and have you tried to do a reinstall or repair for Zone Alarm?

Corrupt addon and tool bars cause all sort of problems with Firefox.

Here's the basic troubleshooting guide at Mozilla; Basic Troubleshooting

There was also an update to 3.5.4 for Firefox yesterday, that fixes a shipload of security and stability problems.

That Zone Alarm tool bar sounds suspect though...

Hi vger,

To answer your questions in reverse order, no I haven't tried to repair or reistall ZoneAlarm. The reason for this is that the only way I can open Firefoax is by using the ZoneAlarm Forcefield link in the Quick Launch bar. (I mean the area in the bottom right of the screen.) Which in its self is rather strarange since when I do open Firefox that way no tool bar appears but if I use it to open a Private browser the appropriate tool bar does appear.

To answer your other question, I can't find any way in ZA for doing was you suggest.

Smile Re: New Firefox problem

When I woke my PC an hour ago I got a pop up saying that an update to FireFox was being installed. When I tried to start FF I got the attached pop up followed by the ZA ForceField pop up.

I tried to start FF by running it as Administrator but it didn't open but ran wild using 100% of my CPU. I had tried twice as you can see from he attached Process Explorer screen grab.

I have now uninstalled FF and re-installed v3.5.3. It appears to have gone in alright, the ZA ForceField tool bar is back.

So I'll see how this goes and once again thanks for your help, I hope I don't have to come back in the too near future.

halsgrandad

Great seeing you!!

I trust that things are all well with you? 'Cept for this, of course

On your re-installs? You're sure you cleaned all out before the new ones went in?

Just as an aside, after an uninstall, I clean out the registry with at least CCleaner, make certain all got cleaned, then do the new install..

Been good so far.

Be well and I'm lookin forward to hearing from you!!
