The issue has been referred to a couple of times, most recently here http://www.pchelpforum.com/general-s...m-removal.html
by oggie, but I cannot find any further reference to safe removal of Omnipass from the Bios.
My problem is essentially the same - (Samsung X30 laptop running XP SP3 with auto update set) except that I simply removed an identity within Omnipass and replaced it with a new one but on boot up the system still asks for a fingerprint even though the system is trying to log me in under the NEW identity but the fingerprint input comes up with a message that the password could not be validated.
Oddly, if I ignore the fingerprint input and simply type the password I know to be correct (and incidentally the same as the previous one!) into the windows log in dialogue I am allowed in.
The old identity does not exist in Omnipass, and although it appears when I access users via Control Panel, neither it nor the other user appears as a log-in option at start up.
I am worried as was oggie that by deleting Omnipass and effectively starting again (I want to install Windows 7) i might simply not be able to access the machine at all.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks

Hi Johnnymag - Welcome to PCHF!!!
As Omnipass is at BIOS level it shouldn't make any difference if you reinstall a different operating system. If there's no option to disable omnipass in the BIOS then it's not possible. I would create a new omnipass account and reset the master password to something you know if you can. I'm not sure where you'd do this but i'm thinking in the BIOS. When you boot your pc and it gets to the windows logon you just type your username and password and it let's you in. You don't have to scan your fingerprint? If not, then I'd say omnipass is already not in use even though it still comes up. |

Thanks DIIRE,
I thankfully know the password so I can get in - I just wanted to get rid of the security altogether (which is why I deleted the original identity which is still in Bios!). I created a new identity which the software treats as a second line of entry to the machine so I'm no further forward! And just to add to my woes I'm getting BSOD with the IRQ_NOT_EQUAL message so my HDD is probably dying..... As you say since it appears to be in Bios maybe I'll get away with the new HDD and Win7 without bricking the machine. Thanks for the advice. Johnnymag |
