Im attempting to completelty reinstall windows on a friends windows xp home edition pc. However each time i attempt to do so a symantec norton ghost screen pops up saying cannot continue due to an error. It then attempts to output a file R:\22o.gho.
Ive attempted to search the registry for any remaining symantec entries and found nothing. Theres nothing i can find which allows me to disable or remove anything to do with norton ghost.
Any help would be much appreciated as im now puzzled by this issue. cheers.

To reinstall windows and loose everything which gives you a new start and clean O/S you have to boot from the xp cdrom and format the drive. Are you wanting to do a complete install or are you trying while your in windows?

Im not sure how to do that but wanted to give it a try yesterday. I dont have much experience with changing settings within bios.
He wants the computer resetting back to factory settings as if from new. The windows disc is a restore disc which came with the pc and branded by emachines. The method im using at the moment is starting the pc up with the restore disc in the cd writer (restore wont start from the dvd drive), and simply following the on screen instructions. I cant find any trace of any norton products on the computer from within windows, like i say ive even been into the registry to find and delete any symantec keys but since the screen is appearing when the pc is attempting restore from startup the thing must be in the bios somewhere. Further help much appreciated. Cheers

Ok this sounds like an OEM recovery disk.
When the pc first boots up tap F2 or Del or whatever key it asks for which will then take you into the bios. You may alternatively see a message saying Boot Order on boot up. If it is the first the look for Boot it may also come under Advanced. Look at the options at the bottom of the screen to change the boot order to cdrom first. Pop the disk in and then Save the setting by pressing F10. Follow the instructions after that.

The boot order was already setup to use the cd rom first. It was already top of the list. Anything further to help with this ?

Hi
Looks like the issues we had back then, when Norton GoBack was still in use. I suggest you boot from a WinXP pro disk, run a Command Prompt window and then try the fixmbr command, or from a Ghost floppy and re-initialize the mbr. If it is what I think it is, a system restore program is active, preventing complete access to the Hard Disk (that raises the possibility of a hidden recovery partition, so look for HPA/DCO) If it sounds way over your head-no offense-ask for clarification...
