Hi Prairie son,
to convert your 8mm tape to digital you'll need a camcorder with an "A/V out" in order to connect it to your desktop (usually via a firewire). Once you have the setup (make sure the camcorder is recognised by the pc), you'll need a video editing software, it doesn't really matter which as pretty much all of them have a "capture" feature. At this point all you have to do is capture from the camcorder and hit play on the camcorder
