Default WinRAR 3.90 Question

Hi

I'm using WinRAR 3.90 (Evaluation Version) to compress my files but it doesn't seem to be working that well.

I compressed a folder which is 788MB in size after compression the ZIP or RAR file is 777MB, not much of a saving. A mate of mine tried his and he saved at least half. All the preferences are set the same, any ideas why my files/folders aren't compressing by much

Consider 7 Zip Paul, it's far better.

Look at the file compression ratio's mentioned further down the page.

7-Zip

I have already tried 7-Zip with the same result

I don't understand why my mate saves at least half the folder size and I don't when all the settings are the same

If you compress it using 7zip it's self then you should see significant results.

Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs.
