Question Microsoft. Net. Framework 3.5

Hello !

I am a mature PC user, and have had use of a lapyop for about 11
months.

I regularly have downloads appear on the Windows update and I usually let them go through without any concern.

However a few months ago Windows advised me about a new one - that would require over 22mb of memory called :
Microsoft. Net. Framework 3.5.

I had a look at it, and frankly did not understand anything that was writtenm but certainly nothing it showed seemed to be of the slightest use to me, so I did NOT download it.

Last month I had the laptop serviced, and have just found out that this download has now been put through.

I only use the laptop for letters/accounts/online banking and research, and am rather unhappy about this download, especially as the laptop seems to be a lor slower.

Do I need it - I don't think so !
Would it do any harm if I deleted it ?

Could someone please let me know what they think, please !!

Many Thanks,

Lombardian

Hello and welcome to the forum

" What is .NET ?
Many people seem to think it's Microsoft's way of controlling the Internet, which is false.
.NET is Microsoft's strategy of software that provides services to people any time, any place, on any device.

.NET is, an XML Web Services platform which allows us to build rich .NET applications, that allows users to interact with the Internet using wide range of smart devices (tablet devices, pocket PC's, web phones etc), which allows to build and integrate Web Services and which comes with many rich set of tools like Visual Studio to fully develop and build those applications."

You should see Microsoft.Net as the background, or foundation for programs.
The programs that use it, can run more efficiently, and securely.
According to Microsoft, it is so important that if all applications used it, there would have been no need for registry cleaning tools whatsoever.

I do not think that it has impacted on your notebook's performance.

I recommend leaving it there, and install any future updates for it.

O.k.

Thank you for your input.

Although I still think it is not really for me, as you have assured me that it is not adversely affecting my laptops performance , I will leave well alone !!

You might review if you have Microsoft or Google Search installed. Both of those searches are very resource intensive and imho not worth the RAM they take for the benefit. If you have either installed, I recommend removing to see if you have an improvement in your performance.

marked as ANSWERED

Hope to see you around the forum often, Lombardian
