A friend is having a major problem with his Windows XP installation (Sp3 installed).

We recently had to restore it using the PackardBell in built software, all seemed well until Windows suggested the IE7 upgrade. Worked ok for an hour or so but now it just seems to open and then close again immediately without displaying anything (fraction of a second, flash on screen then gone again).

Hes running Norton Internet Security 2008 as well, barring that, very little else installed on the PC since the restore.

Hijack this log attached, any help greatly appreciated.

Are you able to install a different browser (i.e firefox) via a flash drive? Or is this a problem with all browsers?

Has your friend tried a uninstalling and reinstalling IE7?

You can uninstall it from Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.

If that doesn't work, we will check his system for malware.

Thanks for posting the Hijackthis! Log for us, unfortunately we need a little more info than that! Could you please have your friend do the work requested in my prework link and post the results for us?

I understand they cannot get online to get the requested programs/updates but they could always install the files from a flash drive or DVD if necessary

Ive asked him to install Firefox last night, will see how that goes.
IE7 uninstall is missing from Add/Remove as id looked for that, ill get them to do the prework and see where we get to and post back, cheers for the comments though
